Zero Grasses is yet another masterpiece by a truly unique artist. Jen Shyu is a consummate scholar-practitioner. Her vast knowledge of East Asian musical traditions is audible in her voice, its impeccable articulation and expressive range. This album focuses decades of intense craftsmanship to bear on deeply personal reflections on family, loss and growing up as an Asian-American woman. It's a deeply touching, beautiful record that I cannot recommend highly enough.
